Sreeperumbudur

A small village 40 kms on the outskirts of Chennai, Sriperumbudur is witnessing accelerated pace of Industrial growth. In fact, the demand for land has resulted in a record highest rate of land appreciation in India. On the 6-track Chennai-Bangalore super highway, it involves 40-50 minutes drive from Chennai to reach Sriperumbudur. Plots within the close vicinity of Chennai becoming rare and costly, MNCs prefer Sriperumbudur to set up industrial units.

Multi national industrial units seek to leverage on the intrinsic advantage the state has to offer. Tamil Nadu is well known for peaceful industrial as well as social environment. Cordial management-labor relations have resulted in the least man-days loss during 2005.

The efforts taken by the State government in making Sriperumbudur a key industrial hub has finally paid off. Skilled manpower, fast improving infrastructure, overall development of the area, pro-active support as well as co-operation extended by the Tamil Nadu government for all new industrial investments has been attracting major industrial units across the world.

The Sriperumbudur SIPCOT industrial estate houses manufacturing units of leading companies like Flextronics, Motorola, Samsung, Ford, Hyundai, Hindustan Motors, Mitsubishi, BMW and the Nokia plant. Global computer major Dell is planning to set up a plant here.

Three major ports at Chennai, Ennore and Tuticorin and 30 cargo flights every week support the manufacturing units in Sriperumbudur to have easy access to key markets in India and Asia. Other incentives apart from reduced time to market are low labor and logistics costs, lower inventory costs, quality workmanship and a responsive supply chain. The government has major plans in order to keep pace with the demands of development.

Sriperumbudur rose to prominence as the place where Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India was assassinated by a human bomb during a political meeting. Today you can find the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial at this spot in Sriperumbudur. The tallest Murugan statue in India can be found at the Vellakotai Murugan temple near Sriperumbudur. This is an important location for Vaishnavites as it is the birthplace of saint Ramanujar.
