Birla Planetarium

The Chennai Birla Planetarium at Kotturpuram boasts of a modern fully computerized planetarium that is of special interest to students and public alike. The projector brings to life the skies and heavenly bodies on a hemispherical dome.

The Periyar Science and Technology Center is situated close to the Birla Planetarium in Chennai. It houses eight galleries - Physical Science, Electronics and Communication, Energy, Life Science, Innovation, Transport, International Dolls and Children and Materials Science. The Planetarium is open on all days except Republic Day, Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanthi. The timings for the shows are English : 10.15 am, 01.15 pm and 4.35 pm. Mondays are weekly holidays.

An excellent opportunity for kids to explore the magical world of science and astronomy, the Birla planetarium and the Periyar science and technology institute offer interactive experiments to whet the curiosity of young minds. The mystery of the solar system and cosmic space are unfolded. There are courses in astronomy and night sky observations.

The IT Gallery & Computer Corner, Urban development Gallery and Ocean Gallery offer a wealth of information to students. Children's Corner allows hands-on experience that combines entertainment with information on concepts taught in schools. The Try Science Kiosk uses interactive programs to make scientific concepts fun and easy to learn. Interactive learning sessions make it an explorative experience for kids. The 3D Science Theater is a wonderful experience to see movies and documentaries on space programs, ocean exploration, animal world and more!
